Despite suffering an apparent ankle injury over the weekend, Oregon freshman forward Kwame Evans Jr. is expected to play this week.

While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, head coach Dana Altman said Evans will be good to go for the Ducks’ Wednesday showdown with rival Oregon State in Eugene.

“He’ll be ready,” Altman said. “He did a little bit yesterday and a little more today. So, he’ll be ready.”

Evans Jr. left Oregon’s 69-64 loss to Cal in Berkeley on Saturday midway through the second half and did not return to the game. He was seen getting his ankle taped by trainers and later returned to the Ducks’ bench. On UO’s in-house postgame radio show afterward, Altman said Evans likely could have returned to the game, but Oregon opted to hold him out.

In 27 games this season, including 20 starts, the 6-foot-10 Evans is averaging 7.6 points and 5.0 rebounds on 43.5% shooting, including 29.3% from three.

A four-star signee in the class of 2023, Evans was a preseason all-Pac-12 honorable mention selection. His role with the Ducks has been magnified in recent weeks as Mookie Cook, Nate Bittle, Keeshawn Barthelemy, and Jesse Zarzuela are all currently sidelined.
