Dillon Gabriel Opens up at Big Ten Media Days
Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel was one of the three representatives at Big Ten media days. He shined on the stage with a very snazzy suit and answered some great questions from CBSsports’ analysts Josh Pate and Danny Kanell.
Here are a few of his responses and the full interview posted below.
On Decision to Transfer:
“Yeah it’s a lot. It’s definitely a lot but it’s definitely a journey to say the least. And when I think that decision ultimately came about, it was competing for a national championship, being around guys who are like-minded and can help support and kind of match that energy. And then lastly, just being in an environment that has a high explosive offense. And you know what they did last year, what they were bringing back. And then of course being at Oregon, we have a very clear vision of what we want to accomplish. So it was an easy decision for me.”
On the Offense at Oregon:
“Yeah I’ll say this, just watching last year you have a clear vision of what it could look like operating at a high level. I think that’s very encouraging for a quarterback, let alone myself being able to play in that and see what they accomplished last year. But I think kind of the adjustment has been from the McDonald’s menu, one word, ordering a number one with a coke to a bible verse. Remembering that. But it’s been good for me. I’ve played in a bunch of different systems, learned a lot, played through a lot of concepts. So that has definitely helped me.”

Acclimating to Eugene:
“I’ll say this, transferring once there was definitely a learning curve and some ups and downs. But I think that second time was a lot easier, believe it or not. So I’m just focusing on routine and trying to get as used to that as soon as possible. Trying to find people you can connect with and make your life easier. I have a lot of support at Oregon that made that transition really smooth.”
On Wearing No. 8:
“It means a lot. Growing up, Marcus was the man. He kind of started it all for us. And of course there’s a bunch of other guys. But him playing quarterback there was a connection for me. It’s special and I don’t take it lightly. It’s an honor, it’s a privilege, it’s a lot of fun.”
