Ducks Flip USC Defensive Back Commit
One of the real surprises for Saturday Night Live weekend was the unexpected visit from USC defensive back commit Dakoda Fields. The Juniperro Serra (Calif.) standout committed to USC over Oregon back in early June. It was a big get for the Trojans over the Ducks.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder is one of the top defensive backs in the country. Fields is the No. 95 ranked player in the country per the On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the No. 13 ranked corner in the 2024 class.
On Monday morning, Fields announced he had a change of heart and flipped his commitment to Oregon.
Fields talked about why he made the decision to flip his commitment with On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
“What really led me to picking Oregon was the genuine relationships I have with the staff,” Fields said. “Coach Tosh, Lanning, and Meat have been applying pressure since day 1; even more since I committed to USC. They made it very clear that I was top priority. Coach Lanning is a defensive minded head coach which plays a huge part in my decision. With the defensive staff that they have I know that with hard work I can achieve my goal of becoming a first round NFL draft pick.”
There has been a lot of chatter about Fields since his visit to Oregon a week ago. However it started to appear as if he would remain committed to USC. But after a week of thinking things over he had a change of heart and committed to Oregon.

The four-star is the second cornerback commit for Oregon joining Ify Obidwegu. They are now Oregon’s top two commits in the 2024 class.
Dan Lanning is now up to 21 verbal commits in the 2024 recruiting cycle at Oregon. The Ducks continue to flirt with a top ten class nationally.
As of now, Fields has yet to take his official visit to Oregon. He has taken multiple unofficial visits to Eugene.
