Five Games That Shape the Season for Oregon
We are getting oh so close to the upcoming college football season. One that has many Duck fans pretty excited at the outlook for a potential national championship run.
What also adds to the anxiousness is the new conference and new opponents that will be intriguing matchups. If Oregon is going to make a run, they will have some tough wins. Maybe close wins, but all that matters is if you win.
- Ohio State @ Oregon (Oct. 12) – This had to be game No. 1 on any list. Early October is going to set the tone for the Ducks, of course assuming there are no slip ups prior to this point. This game is one of the early games of the season across college football. A loss here won’t put Oregon out of the playoffs, but it will certainly force them to be perfect the rest of the way.
- Michigan @ Ohio State (Nov. 30) – Can Ryan Day finally get over the hump and beat Michigan? I don’t think he has a hot seat, but he certainly has to win this game. Of course what happens in October in Eugene will place more emphasis on this game as well for both teams.
- Oregon @ Michigan (Nov. 2) – I do think Michigan will take a step back without Harbaugh leading the team. But that said, they still have a ton of talent, some really good coaches and they get to play at home against the Ducks. These are the three key games in the B1G for Oregon this season and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
- Georgia @ Bama (Sept. 28) – An early season matchup for these two and it will shape much like the B1G with Oregon, Ohio State and Michigan. You really have to wonder how Kalen Deboer will do against a team like Georgia and how he’ll do with Jalen Milroe. Here is our first glimpse at answering those questions.
- Georgia @ Texas (Oct. 19) – The SEC has some real contenders for the playoffs and they might cannibalize their own a bit. Depending on what happens at Bama, Georgia might be in ‘must win’ mode here, also on the road. Sarkisian is hyping up his Horns as the best team he’s had in Austin. Well, I guess we’ll find out a week after we see who Oregon does vs Ohio State.
