Big news in NFL free agency hit on Monday.

The Atlanta Falcons traded Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts and that move cleared the way for Marcus Mariota. Multiple outlets report the Falcons signed Mariota to replace Matt Ryan to a 2-year deal.

The Falcons own website self-reported the agreement as well.

“The Falcons agreed to terms on a two-year contract with Marcus Mariota, the team announced on Monday, bringing in a former No. 2 overall NFL Draft pick and someone with extensive experience as a starter.

Mariota also enters this opportunity with deep knowledge of head coach Arthur Smith’s system. He worked with Smith in Tennessee, when he was Titans quarterback and Smith was a tight ends coach who became offensive coordinator in 2019.”

As an Oregon Duck

Marcus Mariota remains an Oregon fan favorite. Many will recall the ‘unranked’ quarterback from Hawaii visiting and earning a scholarship from Chip Kelly after throwing at a camp. He was later ranked a four-star by most recruiting services.
