Former Oregon safety Daymon David has officially found his next career stop.

David has committed to transfer to Akron, where he will play under former UO offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead. He is listed on the Zips’ updated 2024 roster.

A former 4-star signee, David was the No. 178 overall prospect and No. 11 safety in the 2021 class. He played in 12 games and recorded eight total tackles in 2022, but has been hindered by injuries during the 2023 campaign.

In two games last season, David played 34 snaps and recorded one tackle and one pass deflection.

David previously entered the transfer portal in May of 2022 but later opted to return to Oregon. He was expected to contend for playing time this fall before being slowed by injuries.

A total of 30 Oregon scholarship players entered the portal during the previous two transfer windows — 21 in the winter and nine in the spring. Meanwhile, the Ducks added 14 scholarship players during that same period.

Many of their portal additions — including receiver Tez Johnson, cornerback Khyree Jackson, safety Evan Williams, and right tackle Ajani Cornelius — locked down starting jobs and played key roles during the 2023 season.

This offseason, Oregon will once again look for opportunities to improve its roster by way of the portal.

During the months of December and January, the Ducks made several significant portal additions — including that of former Oklahoma star quarterback Dillon Gabriel and former Washington shutdown cornerback Jabbar Muhammad.
