Former Oregon signee Dior Johnson commits to Pittsburgh

After decomitting from Oregon last week, former Duck signee Dior Johnson has found his new home.
Johnson, a 4-star recruit in the class of 2022 who was a longtime Oregon pledge until recently, announced on Monday that he has committed to Pittsburgh.
The No. 50 overall prospect in the class of 2022 according to the On3 Consensus, Johnson is the No. 9 point guard in the nation. He committed to Oregon in March 2021 and, along with 5-star center Kel’el Ware, provided Dana Altman with a class that featured as much top-end talent as any in the country.
But last week, news broke that Johnson had decomitted from Oregon. Later that day, a UO athletic department spokesperson confirmed that Johnson had been released from his national letter of intent by the university.
It was reported early Monday that Johnson was also considering Washington State and Mississippi State as college destinations.

Here’s the scouting report on Johnson from On3 national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw:
“Plays with a chip on his shoulder. Has good length for his height. A streaky to below-average shooter. Is a good rebounder from the guard position. An average athlete but can be a tough-nosed defender on the ball. Can get overaggressive off the bounce, lead to unforced turnovers. So Cal Academy is his 10th high school.“
Johnson’s decision to U-turn on his commitment to Oregon came after last year’s starting point guard, Will Richardson, opted to withdraw his name from the NBA Draft and return to school for his senior season.
The Ducks have also added former Colorado guard Keeshawn Barthelemy and former South Carolina guard Jermaine Couisnard via the transfer portal.
According to the On3 Consensus, Johnson will be the highest-ranked ’22 commit for Pittsburgh and head coach Jeff Capel III. The Panthers have also signed 4-star big-men Jorge Diaz and Guillermo Diaz.
