Four Oregon Ducks earn ABCA All-Region honors
The 2023 season marked one of the deepest postseason runs in program history for Oregon baseball.
After the Ducks fell just short of their first trip to the College World Series since 1954, accolades are starting to pour in for UO’s individual players.
On Tuesday, four Ducks earned ABCA All-West Region honors.
Shortstop Drew Cowley, infielder Drew Smith, right-hander pitcher Jace Stoffal, and right-handed pitcher Josh Mollerus were all named to the ABCA All-West Region second team.
Cowley, a senior shortstop who spent two seasons with the Ducks after beginning his career at Cal Poly Pomona, led Oregon in hits (85), doubles (22), and RBI (70) this season. He slashed .341/.425/.631 with 16 homers in 63 games. Cowley set the school record for RBI.
Smith, a true freshman who began the year as a reserve player, entered Oregon’s starting lineup in late April and become one of the more consistent hitters in the Pac-12. He slashed .365/..430./.522 and hit three homers while driving in 18 runs. Smith began his Oregon career with a 20-game hitting streak — the longest in school history.
Stoffal a junior right-hander, established himself as Oregon’s Friday night starter this season before suffering a season-ending injury in late April. In 10 starts, he struck out 56 batters in 57 1/3 innings and went 6-2 with a 2.83 ERA. Stoffal was named the conference pitcher of the week three times in 2023.
Mollerus, a senior who transferred in from the University of San Francisco last offseason, tallied a 3.44 ERA and recorded 11 saves. He struck out 50 batters in 36 2/3 innings.
