Four-Star Defensive Lineman Commits to Oregon
It’s never too early to load up the commit list. And the Ducks have just landed their first defensive commitment of the 2025 class.
Following a recent visit, De La Salle (Calif.) defensive lineman Matthew Johnson has committed to Oregon. The 6-foot-5, 215-pounder visited Oregon last weekend as part of an elite junior day list.

Johnson is the 337 ranked player in the On3 Industry Rankings. He is one of the top ranked defensive linemen out West in the 2025 class.
Oregon was able to beat out USC and Miami among others for his commitment.
Here is what Johnson told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on his decision.
“First off, the coaching staff is full of winners. They’re building a championship football team and I want to be a part of it. It’s probably one of the best facilities in all of sports. Most importantly though, they got the best players in the country over there making each other better every day. They are competing and they are all being challenged. That’s the environment I need to be in. That’s how you level up. Also my mom’s husband lives in Eugene 5 minutes from Autzen, so I have been going up there since I was like 12 aside from football. She is moving up there when I graduate anyway so it’s almost like I’m getting to leave home but I also get to take a piece of home with me.”
