Oregon forward Grace VanSlooten has been selected to participate in the 2023 USA Women’s U19 National Team trials.
The trials are set to begin May 12 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., USA Basketball announced earlier this week.
VanSlooten is one of 24 players who will be competing for a spot on the 12-player U.S. roster ahead of the 2023 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup, which takes place July 15-23 in Madrid. The 24 players were selected by the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee.
“On behalf of the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee, I am thrilled to announce this group of two dozen gifted athletes who will compete for a spot on the 2023 USA Women’s U19 National Team,” USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee chair and DePaul University women’s basketball head coach Doug Bruno said in a statement. “Many of these young women have prior USA Basketball experience which will make trials even more exciting. The FIBA Women’s U19 World Cup is a challenging competition and we look forward to selecting a team that will represent the U.S. in the best possible way.”
VanSlooten, a 6-foot-3 freshman forward, earned honorable mention all-Pac-12 honors and was named to the conference’s all-freshman team after a standout debut campaign with the Ducks.
In 32 games, including 30 starts, VanSlooten was Oregon’s second among Oregon players with 13.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. She shot 46.5% from the field and was second among Pac-12 freshmen in scoring.
VanSlooten was voted Pac-12 Freshman of the Week four times last season. On Dec. 26, she became just the third player in Pac-12 history to sweep both weekly conference awards when she was named conference player of the week and freshman of the week.
