Texas Tech at a glance

The Red Raiders went 8-5 last season and notched a decisive Texas Bowl win over Ole Miss to cap off McGuire’s first season at the helm of the program.

However, Texas Tech has stumbled out of the blocks this season. It suffered a 35-33 loss at Wyoming in Week 1 despite entering last weekend as two-score favorites.

Now, McGuire’s squad will look to bounce back against an Oregon squad that scored the most points of any FBS team in the nation in its season opener.

“I’m excited to see those guys take on a great team, the Oregon Ducks,” McGuire said this week. “I got to watch a lot of film of them from last year and then, of course on Saturday, they’re a really talented football team, so it’s gonna be a great test for us.”

Receivers Jerand Bradley and Myles Price are Shough’s top two targets and could pose a threat in the passing game on Saturday. On the defensive side of the ball Syracuse EDGE transfer Steve Linton is capable of generating havoc plays for Tim DeRuyter’s defense.

“Defensively, they’re a pressure team. You’re gonna see a lot of pressures from them,” Lanning said of Texas Tech. “They find ways to pressure in unique ways. They do a good job of running to the ball. They play with great effort; effort shows up all over the film on special teams. That’s somewhere where they’ve been really good. They’re aggressive in the return game. They’re going to try to bring the ball out and they’ve been able to create some explosive returns doing that.”
