Could Oregon go Undefeated in 2024?

Former Washington defensive back Jabbar Muhammad had his chance to talk to the media Monday. Muhammad was able to talk about the defense, how stiff the competition in practice is, and navigating the portal.

On the defense’s physicality:

“I think even pre-Big Ten this team was pretty physical, but from me being here, going through spring workouts and spring training, the practices show that it’s crazy physical. I think this team’s going to be pretty well adjusted going to the Big Ten. It comes from Coach Lanning being a defensive guy, hitting everything head on, the intentions are pure. I just think whatever you’re practicing you’re preaching.”

On how Oregon matches up physically with Washington:

“I think this team is very talented, physically I think it’s also a very physical team. You’ve got freshman who are humungous, you’ve got sophomores who are humungous. This is a very physical team and we practice like it to, so it measures up pretty well.”

On how his personality fits in with Oregon’s secondary:

“They thought I was this serious, up-tight guy, so when I got around them and they see how goofy and my personality was they looked at me a little different.”

On what practice against Evan Stewart has been like:

“It’s been great,” Muhammad says, “obviously Evan (Stewart) is a hell of a player, a hell of a wideout.” Muhammad continues, “He can give you everything: speed, he can jump, yards after catch, so it’s been good, iron sharpens iron.”

On the expectations for his season:

“I put a lot of pressure on myself, my family does too, as far as they know what I’m capable of. As the summer went on, I was just trying to get better every day, and that’s how I approach (fall) camp.

On how much easier the second transfer has been:

“Last time I entered the portal I didn’t know what to expect, but this time I knew what to expect. It was way easier, and I’m obviously older, so I knew what to expect and what I wanted as a player and as a person.”

On which freshman stands out the most on the defensive side:

“I’m going to go with the corner room, I’ll probably say DK (Dakoda Fields), Ify (Obidegwu). Those guys are honed in on the playbook, they looked good in summer workouts, they are attacking each and every day, so I’m looking forward to watching them.”
