Jamaree Caldwell talks at Oregon media day
Another transfer spoke at Monday’s Oregon’s media day, this time coming from Jamaree Caldwell. The Houston defensive lineman transfer was able to talk with media for the first time, and covered his excitement level, goals, and more.
On his excitement level (on a scale from 1-10):
“10, ready for the season.”
On his offseason goals:
My offseason goal was to get stronger. It’s a new system so get used to the new playbook well enough so I can communicate more on the field. My last goal is to shed at least ten more pounds before the season.” In a follow-up about what weight he would like to play at, Caldwell responded, “I move pretty quick for my size, so 315 to 320. That’s stay on the field for third down weight right there.”
On what it’s like to be at Oregon:
“Dan Lanning makes it a family. Some coaches are just like robots, they show up, coach, and that’s it…him (Lanning) we play songs on the road on the way back from somewhere. We go to his house and have cookouts and things like that, I love it.
On what Derrick Harmon brings to the DL:
“Confidence, he talks…on the field, off the field he’s getting really comfortable, and he’s making me more comfortable around everybody. Long, he’s got some length, pause…he’s tall so he brings destruction in the middle. Teams are going to be stressing in the middle.

On the interior DL:
“When I first got here I wasn’t very talkative, but right now we are a unit. Everybody has each other’s backs, helping each other, staying after practice, telling each other right from wrong.
Caldwell told the media that he regularly checks in with his teammates and coaches making sure he is doing a great job. He also describes that there was a learning curve and it took until the end of spring before he finally got a good grasp of the playbook and scheme.
