It’s official, after weeks of speculation, five-star linebacker Justin Williams is set to come off the board. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder is the No. 1 ranked linebacker in the country.

The battle has been between Oregon and Georgia and remains between the Ducks and Dawgs leading up to his decision.

I’ve had my prediction on Oregon since October 25. And today I changed that pick to Georgia ahead of his July 24 commitment.

At the time of my original pick there was a lot of optimism around his recruitment in Eugene. However Williams waited and continued going through the process. Part of that process included later picking up an offer from Georgia at the end of March. Since that offer, the reigning national champs have been Oregon’s biggest threat.

Despite Oregon offering early and building long-standing relationships with Williams, Georgia had the ability to close the gap with recent success. It’s hard not to imagine the appeal of playing in a defense that competes for and wins at the highest level in college football.

While the thrill of potentially landing Williams excited all Oregon fans. The potential of not landing him also stings. However it’s not as if Oregon missed out on a top target to a lesser program. Georgia has shown under Kirby Smart it can recruit the top talent in the country and even stack that talent at multiple positions.

The Ducks currently have two linebacker commits in Dylan Williams and Kamar Mothudi. A third linebacker target, Brayden Platt is set to announce on September 4 as well between Oregon and Oklahoma.
