A bye week doesn’t keep the top ten from seeing some movement. Oregon sat on the sidelines as some big action in college football took place. Some wins, some losses and most of all, a bigger sample size to judge.

I went back and looked at my top ten after the first week of college football. Unlike the AP my top ten hasn’t had a ton of changes to it. Oregon has dropped in both as expected but the Ducks remain in a great spot to capitalize on the expanded playoffs. I do have a new No. 1 from a few weeks ago but nothing more than a little swap.

Here is my updated top ten after four weeks of college football play.

  1. Texas — The most complete team right now. They can win with a backup quarterback. And right now if you look at that schedule, other than Georgia in a few weeks, they should roll to the playoffs.
  2. Georgia — Oh boy, Georgia is favored against Bama this weekend in Tuscaloosa. This will be helluva appetizer ahead of Oregon-UCLA.
  3. Ohio State — I’m still having a tough time totally buying into Ohio State. They can run the ball no question. But the pass game is still off and the defense is average-ish looking.
  4. Ole Miss — Other than Georgia in November, Ole Miss shouldn’t lose a game. Lane Kiffin has that offense humming.
  5. Alabama — Well let’s see what you got this weekend Bama.
  6. Tennessee — Oklahoma was exposed. In the process I think some questions about Tennessee’s defense were answered.
  7. Oregon — Just don’t slip up before Ohio State.
  8. Miami — Is it weird to think Cal might be the toughest game left on the schedule for Miami?
  9. Missouri — Vandy tested them but Vandy isn’t as bad as you think. They got Bama in a month.
  10. Utah — I had to put someone at 10. The truth is from 10-25 you could just about make an argument for any team to be here.
