Ok so it’s time to get drastic with my rankings. We are now in the ‘sink or swim’ portion of the season. We can argue scenarios, who’s on top, all of it and the reality is for most that matter, it’s win or go home.

I’ve enjoyed this college football season. More than most. The top ten has shuffled around a lot. There are really good 1-loss teams and even 2-loss teams. While Georgia is the No. 1 team and has been my No. 1 team for weeks, they are beatable this season.

It’s going to be an epic playoff for four lucky teams this year. I’m going heavy power rankings this week as we enter the stretch run. It’s eyeball tests, health and body of work for my rankings. Of course record will matter but I’m not going to blindly put an undefeated team ahead of a 1-loss team moving forward in my rankings.

Here is my top ten as of Sunday morning. (Week Ten Rankings)

  1. Georgia – I have said over and over again for weeks, anyone that doesn’t have Georgia on top of their poll/ranking, isn’t watching football. This is the best team in the country and again they are beatable. But the Dawgs own this spot but I am excited to see Bama get its shot.
  2. Oregon – I had to do it. I’ve consistently kept Oregon in my top four for weeks now. And only kept FSU and UW ahead of them because they were undefeated. No more. Oregon is the next best team in the country and playing really balanced football on both sides of the ball.
  3. Alabama – At this moment I see these three as the best teams in the country and frankly a tier ahead of everyone else. If you put any of these three against anyone else in the top ten they would be favored on a neutral field. Alabama is very dangerous and I think they will give Georgia all they can handle in Atlanta.
  4. Ohio State – The next tier is these two. Ohio State and Washington are both quality teams and would be a near pick ’em on a neutral field IMO. At this point I expect the Buckeyes give Michigan its first loss this season.
  5. Washington – I knew OSU was going to be tough at home. But even more than that, UW has these long stretches in a game where they just disappear. They have the big play ability with Rome Odunze that survives those lulls but they don’t play at a consistent level like my top three.
  6. Michigan – Still haven’t played anyone. The cheating scandal is despicable but I hate seeing the players punished because the coach wanted to cheat. In any event if Ohio State beats them as I expect they will, Michigan will drop out of playoff consideration.
  7. Oregon State – The Beavs are a pretty dang good football team who unfortunately finishes its season with Washington and Oregon. Playing two top-five teams to finish your season will unfortunately result in losses, but I would put OSU up against any of these teams 4-10.
  8. Missouri – Missouri is kind of where Oregon was to start this season just minus some of the firepower. They play consistent ball, they are solid on both sides of the ball and will punish you for mistakes. If they were in the Big-12 or ACC they’d be undefeated.
  9. Texas – Sliding for me. They make too many mistakes and just don’t have ‘it’ on defense. Totally deserve to be in the top ten but this is not a playoff team.
  10. FSU – If Jordan Travis doesn’t go down I wouldn’t have had to do this. But I fear the playoff shot FSU had is now behind them. Tough loss and you hate to see it happen. I’ll probably have to replace FSU with Louisville in two weeks.
