As of Monday night, the men’s college basketball season is now in the rear view mirror. And the UCONN Huskies finished the season with a national championship trophy beating San Diego State.

While the confetti finishes falling in NRG stadium, we take a very, very early peek into the 2023-2024 season. Hoops guru Jon Rothstein posted his preseason edition on Tuesday. The top 45 schools in the country based on current available information. Of course several schools could still see movement from its current roster.

Here were some of his criteria for his rankings:

*THIS IS ALL SUBJECT TO CHANGE DAILY.
*ONLY PLAYERS WHO ARE PROJECTED AS FIRST ROUND PICKS WILL BE LABELED AS “KEY LOSSES” PRIOR TO AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT.
*ALL COVID SENIORS WILL BE EXPECTED TO RETURN ASIDE FROM THOSE WHO ARE PROJECTED TO BE FIRST ROUND PICKS UNLESS AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT IS MADE SAYING OTHERWISE.

It’s clear you can expect some changes over the course of the year. However this at least gives an initial view from one of the top hoops analysts on where Oregon stands.

And let’s say, it isn’t especially rosy at the moment. The Ducks are the No. 39 team on his top 45. Here is his breakdown on the Ducks.

One of the interesting takeaways from his update is the fact he has N’Faly Dante both as a starter and a key loss. Something will have to give there. Additionally he has Kwame Evans Jr. listed as a starter over returner Nate Bittle, who saw his stock rise at the end of the season.

Oregon is expected to make some additions via the transfer portal this offseason.

From the Pac-12, Rothstein has UCLA at No. 6, Arizona at No. 10, USC at No. 21, Colorado at No. 30, ASU at No. 45.

His top ten is as follows:

  1. UCONN
