Kelly Graves provides injury update on Maddie Scherr following Oregon's win at Utah

Oregon prevailed with a 73-65 win on that road at Utah Saturday despite missing one of its more integral players.
Starting guard Maddie Scherr did not play for the Ducks due to an injury she picked up in their loss at Colorado on Wednesday. Scherr had started Oregon’s previous 28 games and is one of the top on-ball defenders in the league.
During his postgame press conference, Oregon coach Kelly Graves said he believes Scherr’s injury is not a serious one and that the team was simply taking the cautious approach.
“It was more of a precautionary thing,” Graves said. “She’s kind of hurt. You guys saw her the other night get hurt in that Colorado game. We just felt like we knew we were gonna play beyond today… We need her for the long term. If we’re going to beat the really elite teams that have really elite guards, we gotta have Maddie on the floor.”
In Scherr’s absence, reserve guards Ahslise Hurst, Chanaya Pinto, and Shannon Dufficy all saw a slight uptick in minutes and provided some strong contributions.

The Ducks were forced to change their approach against a talented Utah team and roll with a bigger lineup from the get-go. Sedona Prince, the Ducks’ 6-foot-7 forward, started in place of Scherr.
“Utah is such a perimeter-oriented team and we were missing our best perimeter defender,” Grave said. “We went a little more zone tonight than we wanted to against these guys, but I thought we did a pretty good job at it.”
Scherr and the rest of Oregon’s players will get a much-needed rest in the coming days as the Ducks turn their attention to Thursday when they will play their first game of the Pac-12 tournament.
