Dan Lanning Week 4 press conference
- Dan Lanning opens his press conference by voicing his displeasure with the Oregon student section’s vulgar chant directed at BYU during Saturday’s game. Lanning apologized for the incident.
- Lanning on Bo Nix’s improved play: “He’s done a good job of operating what we’ve asked him to do.”
- Lanning on Bo Nix taking a big hit while picking up extra yards late in the BYU game: “You’re a competitor. You wanna pick up a first (down)? Pick up a first.”
- On Wazzu’s defense: “They do a good job of generating pressure when they can. … When they can’t, they do a good job of staying on the perimeter.”
- On Oregon’s growth since Georgia: “I think we’re playing a more physical brand of football.”
- On his message to the defense: “Let’s play a complete game. … There’s a lot of moments from the BYU game that might not be obvious at first glance.”
- On facing the “Cougar raid” Wazzu offense and the differences between the traditional air raid: “They still have 11 personnel, they have 12 personnel, they use the tight end. It’s a lot to prepare for; they still can create some of the issues that the air raid can create.”
- On Bucky Irving’s big-play ability and Oregon’s RB rotation: “It’s a combination of who was available for us… I’ve seen Bucky run with violence. … He’s out there blocking his tail off.”
- On OL Steven Jones’ injury timeline: “Hopefully we can get him back. I don’t have a direct timeline right now.”
- On Oregon’s return game: “I just think we’ve got to be more consistent… We have people who are very capable back there to return kicks and we just have to take advantage of their athleticism when we get the chance.”
- On the strides Jackson LaDuke has made at linebacker: “He’s done a good job being available, that’s part of it. … When we play against 12 personnel, we’ve going to play a little bit bigger at times. Jackson has done a good job with that.”
- On Oregon’s “jumbo” package: “It’s something we’ve carried and wanted to use. … It’s something we felt like we could lean on throughout the game.”
- On Andrew Boyle’s performance kicking off and his experience at Wazzu: “I think he would tell you that he wants to be more consistent… He’s capable of placing the ball in the right spot. He’s just got to be more consistent.”
- On Justin Flowe and Byron Cardwell: “They were both able to practice today. I wouldn’t sit here and say they’re 100%, but we’re hoping they can help us.”
