Oregon baseball delivers thrilling comeback win over Washington State to clinch series
After a rocky start to the 2023 campaign, the Oregon baseball team will have a chance to get back on track Sunday afternoon when they close out a three-game set with Washington State in Pullman.
The Ducks (10-7, 2-3 Pac-12) bounced back Saturday afternoon with a 14-8 win over the Cougars (14-4, 3-2) after dropping Friday’s opener.
Oregon will look to lock up a series victory Sunday with freshman Jackson Pace on the bump. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT.

Ninth inning
T9: After a Cromwick leadoff single, three straight Oregon batters struck out looking.
B9: Mollerus yielded a leadoff single, but then retired three straight batters to close out the game.
Eighth inning
T8: The Ducks were retired in order.
B8: Josh Mollerus replaced Dallas in the middle of the inning and the pair combined to hold Washington State to another scoreless inning.
Seventh Inning
T7: Oregon delivered one of its best offensive innings of the season to take hold of the game for good.
Drew Cowley, Sabin Ceballos, and Josiah Cromwick all drove in runs to help Oregon take back the lead. Then, to cap off the inning, freshman Carter Garate launched his first career homer — a three-run shot — to give the Ducks a 13-7 lead.
B7: Dallas retired the Cougars in order.
Sixth inning
T6: The Ducks were retired in order.
B6: Dallas hit one batter with a pitch, but struck out three other Washington State batters — all looking — to end the inning.
Fifth inning
T5: A run-scoring groundout from Drew Cowley cut the Washington State lead to 7-4.
Then, Tanner Smith’s two-run homer to left trimmed the deficit to 7-6.
B5: Dallas retired the Cougars in order.
Fourth inning
T4: Josiah Cromwick lifts a two-run homer to cut the Washington State lead to 7-3.
B4: Grabmann hit two consecutive batters before being replaced by Matt Dallas, who proceeded to strike out the first two batters he faced and escape the jam.
Third inning
T3: Colby Shade singled to center and advanced to second on a wild pitch. But he was stranded there.

B3: Grabmann navigated around runners on the corners to escape a fourth-inning jam and keep the score at 7-1.
Second inning
T2: Josiah Cromciwck singled in the second inning for the Ducks, but was stranded at first.
B2: Oregon reliever Matthew Grabmann worked around a walk to hold Wazzu scoreless in the second.
First inning
B1: Free passes stung the Ducks in the first inning. After a hit by pitch and a walk, Morrow cracked a two-run single for the Cougars to give them a 2-1 lead.
Later in the inning, Washington State added two more runs on a fielder’s choice that was followed by an error. Then, the Cougars pushed it to 5-1 on Russell’s RBI single to center.
By the time the dust settled and the Cougars were retired, they led 5-1.
Ducks’ start Jackson Pace lasted just 0.1 innings and surrendered seven runs, five of which were earned, on three hits, one walk, and one hit batter.
