Live updates: Oregon baseball vs. Michigan

Oregon’s postseason journey starts here.

The Ducks (35-23) and Michigan (32-26) kick off regional play at 4 p.m. PT at Jim Patterson Field in the second game of the Louisville Regional. The game is set to air on ESPNU.

Earlier in the day, the No. 1-seeded and regional host Cardinals topped No. 4 Southeast Missouri State, 7-2, to advance to the regional final. The loser of the Oregon-Michigan game will face the Redhawks Saturday in an elimination game.

First inning

T1 — Oregon starter Christian Ciuffetelli retired the Wolverines in order.

B1 — Brennan Milone ripped a two-out double but was left stranded.

Second inning

T2 — Michigan drew two walks and singled to load the bases, and Flores scored on a fielder’s choice to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.

B2 — Josh Kasevich was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Jacob Walsh drew a one-out walk, but a double play ended the inning.

Third inning

T3 — Jimmy Obertop launched a two-run homer in the third to give Michigan a 3-0 lead, ending Christian Ciuffetelli’s day after 2 2/3 innings.

B3 — Colby Shade hit a chopper over the third baseman’s head for a two-out double. But he was left stranded.

Fourth inning

T4 — Oregon reliever R.J. Gordon worked around a two-out single to finish the inning scoreless.

B4 — Anthony Hall crushed a double that sent Josh Kasevich to third, then Kasevich scored on a throwing error to score Oregon’s first run of the day. Hall advanced to third on the play, then later scored on a wild pitch to cut the Michigan lead to 3-2.

Fifth inning

T5 — Jimmy Obertop hit his second two-run homer of the day to give Michigan a 5-2 lead. Joey Velazquez later drove in another run with a single up the middle to make it 6-2.

B5 — Brennan Milone drove a two-out double to the right-field gap to score Gavin Grant and cut the Michigan lead to 6-3.

Sixth inning

T6 — Caleb Sloan came on in relief for the Ducks and delivered a scoreless inning.

B6 — Oregon catcher Josiah Cromwick, who replaced Bennett Thompson behind the dish at the start of the sixth inning, delivered an RBI double in his first at-bat to cut the Michigan lead to 6-4.

Later in the inning, Chase Allen came on in relief for Michigan starter Connor O’Halloran and worked his way out of a two-out jam to keep the Wolverine’s lead at two runs.

Seventh inning

T7 — Oregon left-hander Rio Britton replaced Caleb Sloan after Sloan hit the first batter of the inning. Britton walked the first batter he faced, then buckled down and recorded three straight outs to end the threat.

B7 — Brennan Milone lifted a solo homer — his third extra-base hit of the day — to trim the Michigan lead to 6-5. Two batters later, Anthony Hall lined an RBI double to tie the game at 6-6.

Eighth inning

T8 — Matt Frey lifted a two-run homer to give Michigan an 8-6 lead.

B8 — Michigan recorded a 1-2-3 inning to hold the score at 8-6.

Ninth inning

T9 — Oregon reliever Logan Mercado struck out Michigan’s top hitter, Clark Elliott, with runners on first and second to end the inning and finish off a scoreless inning.

B9 — Tyler Ganus, Brennan Milone, and Drew Cowley were retired in order to end the game.

FINAL: Michigan 8, Oregon 6.
