Luke Fickell on Oregon: "We mixed it up on Dillon Gabriel."
Saturday night Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell met with media after a tough loss to Oregon. The Badgers were able to keep Oregon’s offense in check most of the night. Oregon’s defense was also able to keep Wisconsin’s offense in check most of the night as well.
It was a spirited effort from the Badgers only to fall short. Here is what he had to say on the game and looking forward for Wisconsin.
On the Loss:
“To not be able to find a way to come out on top is difficult. They fought their butts off. They did everything we asked them to do. We just haven’t found a way to finish. We still have yet to get over the hump and find a way to pull it out and continue. It’s tough. It’s emotional. We gotta get over it fast.”
On Stopping Oregon’s Offense:
“They did a really good job tackling and eliminating the big plays. We mixed it up enough on Dillon Gabriel where he wasn’t ever comfortable. We created a lot of edge pressure. Not a lot of sacks, you’re never going to get a ton of sacks on Dillon Gabriel. But we created a lot of edge pressure.”

On Sticking to the Run Game:
“We knew we had to do try and do that. We had to control the football a bit. The first three drives were not that good but sometimes that’s something you have to continue to do to try and take a toll. We have to find a way to be more consistent at those things. But our defense gave us the opportunity.”
On Offensive Gameplan:
“They’re tough. We took the field goal early. As we got in the rhythm of the game we knew we needed to score touchdowns. I didn’t feel like field goals were going to win this game. You’re not going to knock off the No. 1 team in the country kicking field goals.”
