Mike Locksley on Oregon: "They're a good team."
Earlier this week Maryland head coach Mike Locksley talked about his teams upcoming game with Oregon. The program will fly across country to face Oregon in Eugene on Saturday at 4PM.
Locksley spent roughly 20 minutes talking to media about his team, voting and other topics.
Here are the top comments from him as it relates to the upcoming game with the Ducks.
Opening Statement:
“We know how tough it’s going to go on the road and play the No. 1 team in the country. But I promise you this, nobody is worried about getting on the plane to go play. We have a good football team. Oregon is one of those teams that’s talented in all three phases. This team can play up to our opponents. We’ve gotta play smart, play together and execute.”
On Playing the No. 1 Team:
“Not at all. It’s our next game. This league has had a lot of No. 1 teams before. We don’t emphasize that. They’re a good team, they’re well coached. They prepare the way we do. It’s going to come down to players making plays.
It’s obviously new to us. But you do your best to prepare and research. We’re leaving a day earlier than usual. Use Friday for meetings and just acclimate. Have a Friday walk and play the game.”

On Dillon Gabriel (& Oregon):
“He makes them go. He’s a really talented player. All the kid does is make plays. The compliment to him is the powerful running game. These two running backs are power downhill, attack the line of scrimmage kind of guys. Put a big time QB with a strong run game. I know the defense very well, I coached with Tosh at Bama. I know Dan’s input on the defense. Excited about this opportunity.”
“They protect him well because he manipulates the pocket. He’s really crafty int he pocket which allows him to extend plays. If the QB has extra time to throw it’s not a great recipe for defensive backs. We’re going to have to have the ability to contain him.”
