Welcome to the wild period of recruiting. Often called ‘silly season’ but usually reserved for later in the year. June and July is the new ‘early Christmas’ in recruiting with many top targets coming off the board around the country.

Oregon missed on one target yesterday with Elijah Rushing committing to Arizona. They are hoping to land one today in Long Beach Poly (Calif.) linebacker Dylan Williams.

On July 16 another target is set to come off the board. Four-star offensive lineman Preston Taumua will make his college decision. The 6-foot-3, 300-pounder from Waipahu (Hawaii) is the No. 227 ranked player in the On3 Industry Rankings. Taumua currently projects as an interior offensive lineman.

On June 22 I put in a prediction to Oregon for Taumua. At the time he had been open about his thoughts on Oregon and wanting to play for the Ducks. Additionally he also took an official visit to Oregon to end June. Most signs pointed in favor of the Ducks.

However in the last 24 hours, Nebraska has managed to grab the attention with Taumua. As of this morning, three Nebraska-based contributors/reporters have placed predictions in favor of the Huskers. Which has pushed the On3 RPM heavily in favor of Nebraska at 73%.

My pick from June 22 remains on Oregon but with much less confidence currently.

Here are a few notes from me on Taumua, what’s changed in the last 24 hours and why I haven’t changed my pick yet.
