Oakland Athletics select Oregon first baseman Brennan Milone in sixth round of MLB Draft

In Brennan Milone’s first season with the Oregon Ducks, he quickly established himself as one of the most productive hitters in the Pac-12. Now, it appears the standout sophomore is set to stay in green and yellow as he begins his professional career.
The Oakland Athletics selected Milone in the sixth round with the 184th overall pick on Monday. He is the third Ducks off the board after the Toronto Blue Jays selected shortstop Josh Kasevich in the second round with the 60th overall pick on Sunday and the New York Yankees selected outfielder Anthony Hall in the fourth round with the 130th overall pick on Monday.
Oregon commit Jackson Cox, a right-handed pitcher from Washington who is the gem of the Ducks’ 2022 recruiting class, was selected 50th overall by the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.
The slot value for the 184th overall pick is approximately $277,100.
After starting his career at South Carolina, Milone transferred to Oregon for the 2022 season and immediately slotted into the middle of the Ducks’ batting order. While splitting time between first base and designated hitter, Milone slashed .337/.405./545 with 12 home runs, 15 doubles, and 55 RBIs in 60 games.

During Oregon’s brief run through the Lousiville regional at the NCAA tournament, Milone was the team’s most productive hitter and went 9-for-15 with two homers over a three-game stretch.
Milone was a top-100 prospect out of high school but never quite found his groove at South Carolina. He was a breakout star for the Ducks in 2022, and head coach Mark Wasikowski frequently praised his athleticism and ability to play multiple positions, which could be a factor throughout his pro career.
