Oregon baseball captures win over No. 23 Gonzaga
Oregon baseball continued its hot start Tuesday by notching its third win of the season over a ranked team.
The Ducks topped No. 23 Gonzaga in Spokane by a score of 9-5 to improve to 14-6 on the season. The Zags are one of the fastest-rising teams in the nation and are off to their own strong start after playing in the Eugene regional in 2021.
But the Oregon bats stayed hot and put up some big offensive numbers in the middle innings to push the Ducks’ win streak to four.
Brennan Milone and Jacob Walsh each went 3-for-5 to pace the Ducks. Walsh and Tanner Smith both hit homers — their four and sixth long balls of the year, respectively.

After taking a 4-2 lead in the early innings, Oregon erupted for four innings in the fourth after Smith, Colby Shade, Millone, and Walsh strung together consecutive hits.
On the mound, eight different Ducks combined to limit a dangerous Gonzaga lineup to just five runs. Logan Mercado notched his third win of the season after relieving starter Jacob Hughes midway through the second inning.
Oregon will now set its sights on this weekend’s three-game series with USC (13-6, 3-3) in Eugene. That series is set to begin Friday at 4 p.m.
