Dana Altman will now begin the most important part of the offseason with the transfer portal blown wide open. College basketball is seeing a record amount of activity already with the portal opening one day ago.

Which means there will likely be additions and subtractions to this Oregon team next season.

One such subtraction will be sophomore forward Mookie Cook. The highly decorated 6-foot-7, 200-pounder came into the program with lofty expectations. Cook finished the 2023 class as the No. 32 ranked player nationally. He was the No. 9 ranked forward and No. 2 ranked player in Arizona. Cook had played his first two seasons of high school basketball in Portland however.

An injury derailed most of his freshmen season with questions looming about his return this season. How he would fit into the rotation, if he was ready, etc. It felt like Cook showed flashes in the limited time he saw this season but never really cracked the rotation consistently. He played less than 5 minutes per game this season for Oregon.

This will be one of the more interesting off-seasons for Dana Altman at Oregon. There is some potential for this team next season with the possible return of Jackson Shelstad and Nate Bittle leading the charge. Just with those two pieces alone, Altman could easily build himself a top-10 squad to start the preseason.

There have been no links to any current teams of interest. Cook will have three years of eligibility remaining.
