Oregon BoT approves contract for Tosh Lupoi to become Ducks' defensive coordinator
The hire of Oregon’s next defensive coordinator has officially been approved.
On Wednesday, the University of Oregon Board of Trustees Executive and Audit Committee met and voted unanimously to approve a three-year, $5.1 million contract for Tosh Lupoi to become Oregon’s defensive coordinator.
The contract will pay Lupoi a base salary of $1.7 million annually.
The school has not officially announced the hire of Lupoi at this time.
Lupoi, 40, spent the 2021 season as the defensive line coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Prior to that, he was the DL coach and run game coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons in 2020 and the DL coach for the Cleveland Browns in 2019.
Prior to his stint in the NFL, he was the defensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide during the 2017 and 2018 seasons and was at the helm of a national championship-winning defense his first year in that role. He also served as a defensive analyst for Alabama from 2014-15 and was its outside linebackers coach in 2016.
Lupoi is a Walnut Creek, Calif., native, and started his college coaching career as Cal’s defensive line coach. He held that role from 2008-11 before taking the same position at Washington from 2012-13.
