Prior to Wednesday, Oregon’s 2024 signing class was already on the verge of being the best in school history.

Following the signing of four-star defensive lineman Jericho Johnson, the Ducks have officially inked their best-ever class.

Johnson, the No. 143 overall prospect and No. 16 player at his position, chose the Ducks over Washington, USC, and Utah. He is the 19th four-star prospect to sign with Oregon in the current cycle.

Before Johnson’s signing, the Ducks sat at No. 6 in the 2024 On3 Industry team rankings with a score of 92.546. After his signing, they surged past Ohio State, Miami, and Texas, and now sit at No. 3 with a score of 92.79.

Georgia (94.513) and Alabama (93.657) are the only teams ranked ahead of them.

Oregon’s 2024 class is now, officially, the highest-ranked in program history, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. It surpasses the Ducks’ 2021 class, which included five-star Kingsley Suamataia, five-star Ty Thompson, and 17 four-star players, and was the No. 6 class in its cycle.

The Ducks’ 2024 class features the fifth-highest “blue-chip percentage” or, the percentage of players in a given team’s class that are ranked as four- or five-star prospects.

“It’s just an everyday approach. And I think we’ve got a staff that’s been doing this for a while and recognizes it’s not about the short term,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said on Wednesday. “It’s about being able to do something every single day and focus on the long-term goals,” Lanning said when asked to detail the signing day events. “These guys that we’re going to get are guys that we think can really enhance what we’ve built and already established here. So having guys that are open to being in Oregon and realize what Oregon can be, and then having a staff that’s going to work to go get those guys.”

Oregon is now projected at 92 scholarships for the 2024 season, which is seven more than the 85-player limit.
