I owe Mario Cristobal, his staff, and the Oregon players an apology.

After last week’s beatdown in SLC, I took this team for dead. Postgame and mid-week press conferences inspired little confidence; players and coaches alike seemed dejected. In my prediction, I thought Oregon State’s confidence and the run game would be too much. I said Oregon’s pride was on the line.

It took mere moments to prove me wrong.

Oregon jumped out early with a 14-0 lead, was up 24-3 at halftime, and, despite a few minutes of hiccups in the fourth quarter, proved their game at Utah last week was more fluke than precursor with a 38-29 win.

Anthony Brown played his best game as a Duck, finishing 23/28 for 275 yards and two touchdowns while adding another 78 yards on the ground. Devon Williams (6 catches, 110 yards) and Kris Hutson (7, 82) caught touchdown passes, and Travis Dye (20 carries, 99 yards, two TDs) was workmanlike.

After the Utah game, many Oregon players stayed on the field to watch the Utes in celebration, no doubt filing those images away for the potential rematch. Now they have it coming up on Friday with a Rose Bowl berth on the line.
