Oregon Ducks drop out of top 10 of College Football Playoff rankings
There was no doubt that the Oregon Ducks would plummet in the College Football Playoff rankings following their upset loss at the hands of rival Washington last weekend.
The question was: how far would they fall?
On Tuesday, the CFP Selection Committee revealed its updated top 25 on ESPN, and the Ducks dropped six spots to No. 12. They were one of six Pac-12 teams to make the cut.
USC (No. 6), Utah (No. 10), UCLA (No. 16), Washington (No. 17), and Oregon State (No. 23) also cracked the top 25.
The Trojans, for all intents and purposes, are the Pac-12’s last hope of breaking into the top four and playing for a national title.
During the rankings release show, ESPN analysts Reese Davis and Joey Galloway talked in depth about the conference’s diminishing CFP hopes.
“I want to see UCLA because the Pac 12 and the strength of that conference is UCLA at 16 and Washington at 17,” said Galloway. “Washington was 25th last week; now they’re up to 17. A huge jump, and it means a lot in the Pac-12.”
“A lot has to happen, but there’s still a possibility for a five-way tie in the Pac-12, by the way,” said Davis.

Georgia held strong at No. 1 this week, while Ohio State (No. 2), Michigan (No. 3), and TCU (No. 4) rounded out the top four.
Oregon will hope to begin its climb back up the rankings this week when it hosts the Utes at Autzen Stadium at 7:30 p.m. PT.
The Ducks are looking to avenge their two losses at the hands of Utah last season and are still in the mix for a trip to eh Pac-12 title game.
“I think this game means a ton,” Oregon head coach Dan Lanning said during his press conference earlier this week. “And I think our guys are playing for each other and they want to do well for each other. … this team really cares about each other, which is important and I think they all have a taste in their mouth from last season.”
“Some of the guys weren’t here and some guys were, but they want to go perform. They want to go perform to their ability.”
