The Oregon Ducks’ path to the College Football Playoff is still very much intact. But for now, at least, the CFP selection committee has made it clear that they are still on the outside looking in.

On Tuesday, the committee revealed its updated top 25 rankings after releasing its initial rankings last week.

Oregon landed at No. 6 and moved up two spots from last week.

The Ducks benefited from a chaotic slate of results in Week 10. They leapfrogged Alabama, which lost a thriller to LSU in Baton Rogue, as well as Clemson, which fell flat against Notre Dame.

But at this point, the committee believes that TCU and Tennessee are more worthy Playoff candidates. Tennesee suffered a beatdown at the hands of Georiga in Week 10. The Bulldogs have now dealt the Ducks and the Volunteers their only respective losses of the season.

On the CFP rankings release show Tuesday, CFP chair Boo Corrigan was asked about Oregon, and the committee evaluates its 46-point season-opening loss to Georgia.

“It certainly is part of what we talk about as we go through this,” Corrigan said. “The other part is they’ve won eight consecutive games while averaging over 40 points a game, beating UCLA who is well-respected by the committee. Again, we’re looking at the overall body of work, where it’s not about one game, but what they’ve done the entire season.”

In a follow-up question, Corrigan was asked how the committee evaluates the level of opponent Oregon has faced since its Week 1 loss.

“We’re looking at everything combined,” Corrigan said. “As we’re looking at it, strength of schedule is one of the components that we do look at. Again, how they play as a team. How they play together is really what we’re looking at, overall, as we go through this process. Again, they’ve been very impressive.”

Elsewhere in the Pac-12, Washington (No. 25), Utah (No. 13), UCLA (No. 12), and USC (No. 8) all cracked the top 25.

Oregon will have an immediate chance to bolster its resume this weekend when it hosts Washington at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. The Ducks will be looking to notch their second win of the season over a team that currently resides inside the CFP top 25.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT, and the game will air on FOX.
