Oregon One of Four Finalists for Top-100 QB Matt Ponatoski

2026 4-Star Cincinnati (OH) Archbishop Moeller quarterback Matt Ponatoski is a top target for Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein.
On Monday, On3’s No. 9 quarterback and No. 100 prospect released an updated group of finalists. Oregon made the cut alongside Alabama, Arkansas and Kentucky, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Ponatoski was offered by Stein and the Ducks last month and was quick to set up an official visit to Oregon. His June 20 visit will be his first time in Eugene as Stein and the rest of the Oregon staff makes their pitch for one of the top uncommitted signal callers in the nation.
“We’re communicating pretty much every day,” the 6-foot-2, 190-pound previously told ScoopDuck. “So I guess the transparency is just, off the charts. And it’s an offense that I think I could see myself playing in. Coach Stein—It looks like the guys that he’s coaching they love to be around him. And my family had a great time with him the other night when he came to the game So super excited to get out there eventually and see what it’s all about.”
Along with Oregon, Alabama and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb have also gotten in the mix recently, extending an offer to the promising quarterback just about a week after the Ducks. He recently scheduled his official visit to Tuscaloosa for June 6, according to On3’s Steve Wiltfong.
Ponatoski is one of the best baseball prospects nationally and he plans to play both sports at the college level.
Last month one of the top offensive players in Ohio was invited to Los Angeles to compete against the best quarterbacks in the country at the Elite 11 Finals. That event is set to take place June 17-19. He’ll head straight from Los Angeles to Oregon to take his official visit with the Ducks.

The next month or so will be crucial in his recruitment as he works toward making a college commitment.
“I think I’m kind of at the end. I don’t have a set date, but in the next two-ish months, kind of have that decision made,” he told ScoopDuck in May. “I’m gonna probably go on one or two more visits and after that kind of make my decision. Just don’t want to drag it out too long.”
Oregon does not have a quarterback committed in the 2026 class and 5-Star Folsom (Calif.) quarterback Ryder Lyons is the other big name to monitor in this class.
Lyons is also set to take his official visit with Oregon next month and a decision could come at any moment from him.
