In a world where everything is changing, it’s nice when some things don’t. Traditions are becoming fewer and fewer making them more valuable than ever. As humans we don’t love change, often fear it. But it’s inevitable especially in today’s evolving world.

The changes in college football continue to reshape the sport in all aspects. Some changes have been positive, some we’ll just say are still a work in progress.

Oregon fans are still very fortunate where many other college football fans are not. They have a head coach that doesn’t fear holding a true Spring game. Who believes in it. Embraces it. Who vows to continue having one while others quickly canceled or changed theirs.

While a Spring game has always been a modified game, it has been a window to your team. A first look. An early evaluation. It’s like going to Arizona to watch your favorite baseball team in Spring training. You know it’s not a real game and the score doesn’t matter, but you’re happy to have the chance to see them just the same.

That’s how fans feel about their favorite college football teams. That’s how Oregon fans feel about Oregon football. With so many new faces expected to be starters on this roster this next season, I’d argue anticipation is at an all-time high. Practices are closed so this becomes the only preview available all Spring. One of the changes Dan Lanning has made to the program.

An Oregon Spring game is held in high regard by fans of the program. I know I-5 will fill up with Portland fans headed Southbound and Southern Oregon fans headed North. Heck, I know just from past experience people fly in just for the Spring game. Again, just wanting that glimpse of the team. Maybe catch a big play, see who’s gotten bigger or faster.

Most of all, it’s a chance just to sit inside Autzen stadium for a couple hours, tune out the real world and enjoy something that puts a smile on your face. Best of all, every touchdown is one for the good guys. Every big defensive play is one for the good guys. You can’t lose.

Oregon will bring in some of the most elite recruits in the country. Because this football staff believes in a Spring game showcase and knows fans will flood the stadium and give recruits a taste of what games are like in Autzen stadium. Very few programs, even before the cancellation of Spring games, could boast an atmosphere like Oregon. Certainly not anyone West of Texas.

So Duck fans take it in. Enjoy a tradition very few continue to enjoy. Show 5-Stars Jackson Cantwell and Brandon Arrington what makes Oregon special on Gamedays. It’s free to get in with canned donations appreciated. Bring the whole family. Enjoy the food trucks they’ll have around the stadium. Stay and go watch Oregon baseball take on Oregon State following the game. (4:05 opening pitch) Make a day of it the entire family will enjoy.

If you can’t make the game and you still want to support your Ducks, watch the game on the Big Ten Network. It’s clear they are happy to broadcast one of the few Spring games left in the sport.

Kickoff is set for 1 PM. Be there…… or be square.
