Oregon football notebook: Justin Flowe participates in Tuesday practice

Last week, the Oregon Ducks emerged from their Week 4 win over Washington State almost entirely healthy.
The same is true this week, as there were no new absences or injuries observed during the open portion of the Ducks’ Tuesday practice. The only players who did not participate were defensive lineman Popo Aumavae, Maceal Afaese, Sua’ava Poti, and offensive lineman Steven Jones, all of whom are dealing with longer-term injuries.
But aside from those four, every other Oregon player was an active participant at the start of practice.
That includes redshirt freshman Justin Flowe, who was not in uniform for Oregon’s win over Stanford on Saturday.

On Monday, Oregon coach Dan Lanning said Flowe is “trending in the right direction” to play in the Ducks’ Week 6 game at Arizona. Flowe went through warmups and position drills on Tuesday and did not appear to be at all limited.
Byron Cardwell practiced, too, and appears to be full go. Cardwell, a preseason all-conference selection, has not played in Oregon’s past three games. Following the program’s Week 3 win over BYU, Lanning said Cardwell was dealing with an injury.
Other news and notes
- Oregon continued its trend of working through “pressure kick” situations at the start of practice. Over the past few weeks, Lanning and his staff have orchestrated scenarios during the early portion of practice that are intended to put the program’s specialists in high-pressure scenarios while their teammates do their best to distract. This time around, punter Ross James lined up to punt to Kris Hutson while surrounded by a chorus of shouts. James’ punt was a poor one that went less than 30 yards, and Hutson failed to field it cleanly.
- James appears to still be the Ducks’ go-to option at punter after a strong showing on Saturday in what was his first start of the season. Adam Barry began the year as Oregon’s starting punter, but has given way to James after some early struggles.
- Hutson, Seven McGee, and Josh Delgado all took reps returning punts for the Ducks during the first period of practice.
- During the second period, Oregon’s skill position players went through the typical mod bracket drill against linebackers and defensive backs. The first matchup from that drill featured:
- Kris Hutson and Moliki Matavao vs. Bennett Williams and Steve Stephens IV
- Oregon had a walk-on offensive lineman wearing No. 66 present at Tuesday’s practice who was not previously with the team.
