Oregon Football Practice Notes 8.19
As we inch closer to the start of the season you can notice the intensity really starting to pick up at practice. The energy was high from the start of the practice from not just the players but the coaches as well.
Practice was a bit limited today as the media only got to see warmups, stretching and a few unit specific drills.
Running back CJ Verdell and Kingsley Suamataia were both not at practice. Ryan Walk, Brandon Dorlus, Popo Aumavae, Jonah Miller and Macael Afaese were all limited during practice.
Bryan McClendon isn’t just a fantastic recruiter, but seeing him coach up the pass catchers is special. He was intense this morning but the things he was saying were clear and precise. You can tell he’s doing a great job at coaching the receivers up and he’ll have this unit firing on all cyclinders at the start of the season.
It was also great to see Mario Crisotbal spending time coaching the offensive lineman up during drills. He asks a lot out of them, but even in the few minutes I was able to watch of him coaching the unit he was correcting minor mistakes and having them repeat the drill until they fixed them.

We didn’t get to see a ton of reps between the receivers and the quarterbacks, but they did have a drill where multiple receivers run routes and a different quarterback hits each receiver. There aren’t any defenders, but it’s still great to see some live passing reps. At practice last week during this drill there were a handful of drops, but this time around they completed 22-23 of the passes with the only incompletion being a slight overthrow.
When the offense did get together for passing drills, the first-team unit consisted of Anthony Brown, Troy Franklin and Johnny Johnson III at the outside receiving spots with Jaylon Redd in the slot and Travis Dye in the backfield.
There wasn’t a ton to take away from this practice but it makes sense as things start to tighten up as we’re getting closer and closer to the start of the season. But if the energy at practice is any indication, this coaching staff is going to have the team ready to roll on September 4th.
