QUAAACK: 4-Star Linebacker Tristan Phillips Commits to Oregon
2026 On3 Industry four-star Ventura (Calif.) linebacker Tristan Phillips has committed to Oregon. He announced his decision on Saturday afternoon, choosing the Ducks from a top group that also included Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Washington, Utah and Arizona State.
Phillips is rated a four-star (88.47) prospect on the On3 Industry. The same system ranks him the No. 306 player nationally, the No. 24 linebacker and the No. 33 prospect in California. Oregon’s newest commit in the 2026 class also plays basketball during the offseason.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound backer was on campus in Eugene for an unofficial visit last weekend when Oregon defeated the Washington Huskies 49-21. The Ducks did a great job getting plenty of one-on-one time with him in this recruitment, as he was also in town for the big win over Ohio State back in October.
Phillips strengthens Oregon’s Southern California pipeline
The newest Duck is the first linebacker commit in Oregon’s 2026 class, which is already full of defensive talent, including fellow Southern California prospects Tomuhini Topui and Dutch Horisk. He’s the fifth West Coast prospect to commit to Dan Lanning in his class.

With the Southern California linebacker in the fold, Oregon’s 2026 class, which ranks No. 1 nationally according to On3, is up to 10 total verbal commitments.
Phillips is one of a handful of linebacker targets for Brian Michalowski, with Orange (Calif.) Lutheran linebacker Talanoa Ili, Inglewood (Calif.) linebacker Kenneth Goodwin and Matthews (NC) Weddington linebacker Thomas Davis Jr. being a few other names to watch at the position.
With another linebacker joining the Flock, Oregon continues to stack some recruiting momentum at the position, with Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy linebacker Gavin Nix flipping from Miami to Oregon earlier this week. Eugene continues to become more of a destination for linebacker play, as promising recruits line up to follow in the footsteps of Duck greats like Kiko Alonso, Troy Dye and Michael Clay among others.
