Oregon WR Target Chris Henry Jr. Shuts Down Recruitment

2026 On3 Industry five-star Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. has been committed to Ohio State since July 2023. That hasn’t stopped other schools, mainly Oregon, from trying to flip him from that pledge.
It looks like his pledge to the Buckeyes is stronger than ever, as the No. 2 wide receiver in the country shut down his recruitment on Tuesday, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
“I want to be in Columbus and I want to be a Buckeye,” Henry told Fawcett.
The 6-foot-5, 195-pound receiver also cancelled his upcoming official visits to Oregon, USC and Miami that were scheduled for the summer.
Henry visited Oregon for the team’s Junior Day recruiting weekend back in January and the Ducks were widely-viewed as the school with the best chance to flip him from his pledge to the Buckeyes.
With Henry locking in his commitment to Ohio State, new Oregon wide receivers coach Ross Douglas will likely focus on recruiting receivers like four-star Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, four-star Messiah Hampton and four-star Jalen Lott among others.
Torres’ Take
Tuesday’s news is a bit of a mixed bag for me. Over the weekend I was gaining confidence in Oregon’s chances to pull off a flip, but Henry’s actions have continued to match his words.

When I caught up with him in February after his Oregon visit, he said “If Coach Hartline’s there, I’m with Ohio State.” Well, Hartline got promoted to offensive coordinator this offseason after Chip Kelly left for the Raiders, so he indeed isn’t showing any signs of leaving.
It was always going to be difficult for Oregon to flip Henry, but maybe this one isn’t completely over. Maybe he pops up in Eugene for a game in the fall. Or maybe this one really is completely shut down. You could make a case for both.
As for other wideouts, Hampton is visiting Oregon for the first time on Tuesday. Lott was just on campus last month, and I’ll bet Dixon-Wyatt will be back for a visit this spring. Henry was always a long shot, so I don’t think this is a make or break development for the Ducks. In fact, it’s far from it.
Oregon will be fine, and I’m excited to see how Douglas’ first wide receiver haul shapes up, with the help of Ra’Shaad Samples, who used to coach receivers, and the rest of the staff in Eugene.
