QUAAACK: Coveted LB Gavin Nix Flips Commitment to Oregon
Dan Lanning and Oregon have their spatulas out, as 2025 On3 Industry four-star Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy linebacker Gavin Nix has flipped his commitment from the Miami Hurricanes to the Oregon Ducks.
Nix had been committed to in-state Miami since July 1, choosing Mario Cristobal’s Hurricanes from a top three that also included Oregon and the Florida State Seminoles.
“Coach Lupoi kind of touched on this,” Nix said of the opportunity at Oregon in a previous interview with ScoopDuck. “The main thing for me is challenging myself to go far, go play in an unusual climate for me and most definitely be a part of a program that’s been doing great things. Being a part of coaches and teachers that I can really trust and help elevate me as a player and an even better man. They’re doing great things up there in Eugene.”
The On3 Industry rates Nix as a four-star (90.95) prospect. The same system ranks him the No. 240 player nationally, the No. 25 linebacker and the No. 32 prospect in Florida.
Nix is the first linebacker to commit to Oregon in the 2025 recruiting class as Brian Michalowksi goes all the way across the country to pull in a top ‘backer from the Sunshine State. He took an official visit to Oregon in June and the Ducks never went away in his recruitment, staying in the mix despite his pledge.

Ducks play the long game and land a priority
Linebacker has been a position of need for the Ducks all along in the 2025 cycle as they prepare to play without players like Jeffrey Bassa, Bryce Boettcher and Jestin Jacobs next season.
The Ducks would love to add a few other linebackers to this haul and Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola linebacker Elijah Melendez, an Auburn commit, and North Clovis (Calif.) linebacker McKay Madsen are two other prime candidates.
Nix is now the latest addition to Oregon’s growing Florida pipeline, which also includes elite wide receiver Dallas Wilson and offensive tackle Ziyare Addison, who are both from the Tampa area.
