Oregon to Host No. 1 Running Back in Transfer Portal
With Oregon’s season coming to an end in the Rose Bowl, the Ducks are hard at work building their roster for the 2025 season.
Dan Lanning, Marshall Malchow and the rest of staff are already off to a great start in the transfer portal. They boast the No. 4 team in the On3 rankings with six commitments, the latest being former USC defensive lineman Bear Alexander.
Now Oregon is scheduled to host former Tulane running back Makhi Hughes for a visit this weekend, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.
Hughes entered the transfer portal in late December after spending the last three seasons with the Green Wave in New Orleans.

In his two seasons of action (sat out in 2022 due to injury) the 5-foot-11, 210-pound running back ran for 2,779 yards and 22 touchdowns on 523 carries (5.3 YPC). The Birmingham, Alabama native was named a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award recognizing the nation’s top running back.

Hughes is the No. 1 running back and No. 3 overall player in On3’s transfer portal rankings.
He’s also the older brother of incoming Oregon five-star plus+ cornerback signee Na’eem Offord, who flipped his commitment from the Ohio State Buckeyes to the Ducks during the early signing period last month.
Ra’Shaad Samples and the Ducks signed two high school running backs in the 2025 recruiting class in four-stars Jordon Davison and Dierre Hill Jr.
However, the future of the running back room in Eugene is a bit unclear following the end of the season, as both Jordan James and Noah Whittington have additional eligibility remaining should they choose to return to Oregon.
James is believed to have suffered a head injury in this week’s 41-21 Rose Bowl loss to Ohio State. He did not return and Oregon’s offense struggled to run the ball the entire game.
