Oregon Coaches Blitzing the Recruiting Trail During January Contact Period
The Oregon coaches are sprinkled throughout the country in the midst of the January contact period. This period presents a major opportunity to get factime with recruits and strengthen relationships with top targets.
While the 2026 recruiting class is the main focus for Dan Lanning and company, the 2027 class is also receiving some attention, with offers flying out just about every day.
Lanning has shown that he has the ability to stack elite recruiting classes since taking over at Oregon. He signed the No. 3 class in 2024 and the No. 5 class in 2025. The 2026 class may end up being his best yet and the Ducks are already off to a fiery start with 10 verbal commitments, which is good for No. 1 nationally according to On3.
If one had to pick a specific position, defensive line is the current strength of this class. But Oregon also has some serious star power with five-star Kendre Harrison at tight end and high four-star Kodi Greene at offensive tackle. Both players are expected in Eugene to visit this weekend.
What’s even better about Oregon’s coaches being out on the road recruiting, is that many of the prospects they’re visiting will be in Eugene this weekend or next for recruiting visits with the Ducks.
Time is a precious resource in recruiting, and Oregon has been strategic and effective with their use of it this month.
Here are some of the top recruits and schools the staff has visited over the course of the month, with travel expected to continue until the dead period begins on February 2.
2026 QB Ryder Lyons (Folsom, CA)
Notes: Lyons is a five-star recruit and the No. 3 quarterback in the On3 Industry rankings. He tells ScoopDuck that he plans to take an official visit to Oregon. He’s one of three passers Will Stein and the Ducks are recruiting this cycle along with Jonas Williams, who’s committed to Oregon, as well as five-star Jared Curtis out of Nashville. The staff has visited Lyons twice in January.
2026 RB Deshonne Redeaux (Westlake Village, CA)
Notes: Redaux has Oregon in his top 12 schools, which were released in July. Oaks Christian is where the Ducks signed five-star Kayvon Thibodeaux in the 2019 class and also home to four-star 2026 priority cornerback target Davon Benjamin.
