One of the best prospects on the West Coast is moving up his timeline for a college commitment. Four-star Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon defensive lineman Richard Wesley will reclassify from the 2027 recruiting class to 2026, according to On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Hayes Fawcett.

Prior to his decision, the 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive lineman was ranked the No. 2 player nationally, the No. 1 defensive lineman and the No. 1 prospect in California according to On3.

Wesley’s decision to reclassify comes not long after his teammate, 2026 four-star Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon cornerback Havon Finney Jr. made the some move and sped up his high school career. Other Oregon targets that have reclassified from 2027 to 2026 include four-star Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei tight end Mark Bowman and four-star DeSoto (Tex.) wide receiver Ethan ‘Boobie’ Feaster.

Both Finney and Wesley are priority Oregon targets and made the trip to Eugene earlier this year for the Ducks’ Junior Day recruiting weekend.

“The person I spent the most time with over there was Coach (Bryan) Barraza, the assistant defensive line coach,” Wesley told ScoopDuck after the visit. “Having him there the whole time was elite because I had the opportunity to ask questions about my position or he would give me knowledge.”

Oregon signed offensive lineman Michael Wooten from Sierra Canyon in the 2022 recruiting class, but he didn’t see many snaps in Eugene and ended up transferring to Arizona prior to the 2024 season.

Oregon already has five commitments along the defensive front in a 2026 recruiting class that ranks No. 1 nationally according to On3. It’s fair to say that Wesley is the caliber of player that any school would gladly make or leave room for regardless of room in their class.

Dan Lanning and the Ducks find themselves battling the likes of Texas A&M, Texas, Ohio State and USC for one of the best prospects in the Golden State.
