After being dismissed from the Oregon football program last week, Traeshon Holden has been reinstated and is once again a member of the UO football team, according to a statement from Ducks’ head coach Dan Lanning.

“Following the release of new information from the Lane County District Attorney’s office, student-athlete Traeshon Holden has been reinstated to the Oregon football team,” Lanning said Friday evening. “We will always take allegations of this nature very seriously. However, when new information is provided by authorities, such as in this instance, disciplinary action will be reevaluated and adjusted, when appropriate.”

Holden was dismissed from the program last week following his arrest on the morning of Feb. 15. According to records from Lane County Jail, Holden was charged with menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, and coercion. He was held in custody until that evening.

“We are aware of the incident involving Traeshon Holden, and he has been dismissed from our team,” Lanning said in a statement later that morning. “We have high standards for the student-athletes, coaches, and staff in our football program, and we are disappointed when these standards are not met. We will continue to hold everyone in our program accountable for meeting our expectations.”

Last Friday, KEZI reported that the Lane County District Attorney’s office had opted not to file charges against Holden after it reviewed body camera footage and video surveillance and interviewed additional witnesses.

“Traeshon Holden did nothing wrong,” Holden’s attorney, Jacob Houze, said in a statement to KEZI. “The Lane County District Attorney’s thorough review of the evidence has confirmed that. Now that he has been exonerated, he deserves to have his good name back.”

On Monday, Lane County District Attorney Patricia Perlow wrote in a statement to the Register-Guard that, “The evidence does not support charging Mr. Holden with any crime.”

“I’m happy to have been exonerated, and I’m looking forward to a great season with the Ducks,” Holden said on Friday in a statement provided to The Oregonian/OregonLive via Houze.

Holden, a junior who spent his first two collegiate seasons at Alabama, committed to transfer to Oregon on Dec. 11, 2022 and was projected to compete for a starting spot with the Ducks.

In three seasons with three Crimson Tide, the 6-foot-3, 208-pound wideout caught 46 passes for 570 yards and seven touchdowns in 21 total games.
