Oregon has hired Dan Lanning as its next head coach
Oregon has officially hired Dan Lanning as its next head coach, multiple sources confirmed to ScoopDuck on Saturday.
Lanning, 35, will be the 35th head coach in school history. Shortly after the hire was announced, Oregon confirmed in a press release that Lanning will be its next head coach.
Per the release, he will be officially introduced in a press conference at the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex at 2 p.m. PT this Monday.
“Dan is an outstanding, high-energy football coach who will provide a world-class experience for our football student-athletes,” Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens said in the relsease. “He is a tremendous recruiter and developer of talent, and we will continue to compete for championships while providing an environment where our football student-athletes can develop to their fullest potential in the classroom, on the football field, and as people.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to have Dan as the leader of our football program, and we look forward to the positive impact he will have on our student-athletes. We are excited to welcome Dan, Sauphia, Caden, Kniles, and Titan to the Oregon family!”

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was first to the news and reported Friday that Lanning, who currently serves as Georgia’s defensive coordinator, was expected to be named the Ducks’ head coach on Monday.
Oregon’s players were informed Saturday that Lanning will be the hire.
Lanning is in his third season as the defensive coordinator for the No. 3 Bulldogs. This season, the Bulldogs have the No. 1 scoring defense in the nation at 9.54 points per game.
Lanning made $1.7 million with the Bulldogs in 2021.
Shortly after news broke of Lanning’s hire, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart released a statement confirming that Lanning will coach the Bulldogs through the postseason and then depart.
