You read that headline back. The Ducks are back on top of the AP poll after last holding the honor in November of 2012. It’s been more than a decade since Oregon has been the No. 1 team in the AP poll.
This comes after Oregon handled Purdue Friday night and Texas lost at home to Georgia. Kirby Smart had his team ready for the Longhorns after losing to Alabama earlier in the year.
For Oregon the chance to stay at No. 1 should remain in Oregon’s control. The Ducks next host Illinois which also checks in at No. 20 in the AP poll, setting up another top showdown for Oregon. The Ducks now have wins over the (Current) No. 4 and 17 teams in the country.
A win over Illinois would give Oregon three top 20 wins. The only team to hold that distinction.
