On Wednesday, Oregon was able to land the commitment of former Ohio State Forward Sean Stewart. The former McDonald’s All-American recorded a really nice statline against Oregon in January. The 6’9 220 Stewart was ranked as a 5-Star recruit 2023 class, according to On3. He was tabbed as the Nation’s No. 2 Power Forward prospect.

Sean began his career at Duke, playing in 33 games and averaging 8.4 minutes per game. He didn’t start a game while at Duke, only recording 2.6ppg, 3.2rpg (1.3 ORpg), 0.2apg, 0.5spg, 0.5bpg. Following his freshman campaign at Duke, Stewart hit the portal and landed at Ohio State, looking for more playing time. The sophomore would start all 30 games he played this season, but only received 18.4 minutes per game. In his somewhat limited time, Stewart recorded 5.7ppg, 5.8rpg (1.5 ORpg), 0.6apg, 0.7spg, 0.9bpg, and 3.4 personal fouls/game. The shooting splits for this season were as follows; 71/131 (54.2%) from the field, 1/2 (50%), from 3pt range, and 27/54 (50%) from the free throw line.

A big reason for Stewart not playing more appears to be his foul trouble, which wasn’t a huge issue in his freshman season. Stewart fouled out 7 times this season, which shows a lack of discipline on his end. This issue will need to be corrected going forward but it gives Oregon some very quality depth. Additionally the free throw shooting will need to be a focus for the soon-to-be Junior. Stewart is also a solid defender, posting a 90.2 defensive rating as a freshman, before a bit of a slump, at a 98.9 defensive rating this year.

With Stewart now in the fold, and Dame Sarr trending to Kansas, here’s how the roster with current commits included looks:

Projected Starting 5:

G Jackson Shelstad

G TK Simpkins (Elon) OR Jamari Phillips

F Devon Pryor (Texas)

F Kwame Evans Jr

C Nate Bittle

Bench: JJ Frakes, Oleksandr Kobszystyi, Dezdrick Lindsay, Miles Goodman, Sean Stewart, Luke Johnson (PWO), Drew Carter (PWO), Andre Warren (PWO)

At this point in time, I believe Oregon is a player, maybe two players away from being a solidified Top-15 roster.
