Oregon lands commitment from South Carolina leading scorer Jermaine Couisnard
The Oregon men’s basketball program has landed a commitment from one of the top available players in the country.
Jermaine Couisnard, who led South Carolina in scoring last season, committed to the Ducks on Thursday according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
According to Jamie Shaw of On3, Couisnard is the No. 33 player in the soon-to-be-released On3 transfer portal rankings. A former 3-star recruit in the class of 2018, Couisnard chose Oregon over offers from Gonzaga, Ohio State, UMass, and several others.
In Eugene, Couisnard will be reunited with former South Carolina assistant Chuck Martin, who joined Dana Altman’s staff in March after the dismissal of former Gamecock coach Frank Martin.
Last season, Couisnard led the Gamecocks with 12 points per game and also averaged 3.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game for a South Carolina program that finished fifth in the SEC. He comes to Oregon with two years of eligibility remaining.

A 6-foot-4, 211-pound combo guard, Couisnard will settle into a loaded Oregon backcourt. Earlier this spring, the Ducks added Colorado transfer Keeshawn Barthelemy. They are also set to bring in Dior Johnson, a 5-star guard from the class of ’22, as well as JUCO transfer Brennan Rigsby.
Oregon is still waiting on a decision from its starting point guard and leading scorer, Will Richardson, who has filed for early entry in the NBA Draft. Richardson has until June 1 to remove his name from the draft if he wishes to return to school.
Jacob Young and De’Vion Harmon both started at guard for the Ducks for much of last season, but Young has exhausted his eligibility, and Harmon entered the transfer portal last month and has since committed to Texas Tech.
Earlier this week, the Ducks got some more positive news when starting center N’Faly Dante announced that he will return next season.
