Oregon offensive lineman Jonathan Denis out indefinitely with injury

There weren’t many surprises when Oregon released its depth chart Monday for the season-opener with Fresno State. But one glaring omission is that of freshman offensive lineman Jonathan Denis.
During his press conference Monday afternoon, head coach Mario Cristobal elaborated on why that is.
“Jonathan Denis, he had an injury the other day,” Cristobal said. “He was just about splitting time with the ones.”
It sounds as though the 6-3, 296 pound freshman won’t see the field anytime soon, either.
“We think his injury is gonna be probably a little bit longer,” Cristobal said. “So he may be out for a little while.”

It’s unfortunate timing for Denis, who had a stellar preseason camp and seemed to be in line for significant playing time at center this season.
A former 4-star signee from Homestead, Fla., Denis did not play in a game as a true freshman in 2020.
The organizational chart that Oregon released Monday lists Alex Forsyth as the starting center, with true freshman Jackson Powers-Johnson, and freshman Marcus Harper II as the third-stringer.
