Dan Lanning has officially completed the hiring of his Oregon offensive staff.
On Tuesday, UO announced the hiring of Carlos Locklyn as the Ducks’ running backs coach.
It was reported last week that the hire was all but finished. Locklyn did not wait long to make some inroads with key figures from Oregon’s past, and he Tweeted on New Years Day that he had been in touch with former longtime Ducks’ running backs coach Gary Campbell.
“I am thrilled to have Carlos Locklyn join us here at Oregon,” Lanning said in a press release Tuesday. “He is a dynamic addition to our offensive staff, playing a big role in Western Kentucky’s historically productive offense this past season.
“I was able to see Carlos’ love and dedication to his players in my time together with him in Memphis. Watching him grow in the profession has been true evidence of his drive and focus. He is a servant leader and will do a great job with our running backs.”
Locklyn spent the 2021 season as the running backs coach at Western Kentucky in what was his first season as a collegiate on-field coach. He helped lead an offense that averaged 44.2 points per game, the second-best mark in the nation.
Prior to his work at WKU, Locklyn was Florida State’s director of high school relations in 2020. He spent 2017-2019 at Memphis, where he overlapped with Lanning and spent time as an offensive analyst, weight room assistant, and director of high school relations.

Prior to those college stops, he spent eight seasons as a high school coach.
As a player, Locklyn spent four seasons as a running back at Chatanooga, where his mark of 123.9 yards per game is a school record.
With the hiring of Locklyn, Lanning’s offensive staff is now complete. It also includes offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kenny Dillingham, associate head coach and offensive line coach Adrian Klemm, co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Junior Adams, and tight ends coach Drew Mehringer.
Lanning has also hired co-defensive coordinator Matt Powledge, cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin, defensive line coach Tony Tuioti, and special teams coordinator and nickels coach Joe Lorig.
