Oregon Overcomes Michigan, Moves to 9-0

by:Linden Hile11/02/24

The Oregon Ducks made the trip out to Ann Arbor this weekend to take on the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines and got a relatively easy 38-17 win.

First Quarter

Oregon’s first drive took 12 plays but netted a spectacular goal line touchdown catch from receiver Evan Stewart on a fade to the corner of the end zone.

Following a fumbled punt return by Ducks’ receiver Ryan Pellum, Michigan capitalized in the red zone on a rolling touchdown pass from quarterback Davis Warren.

Second Quarter

Another smooth drive for the Ducks was finalized by a one-yard touchdown run from Noah Whittington after a great deal of review, making it 14-7 Oregon. Later in the quarter, a deep ball from quarterback Dillon Gabriel to receiver Traeshon Holden set up a six-yard touchdown run from Whittington making it 21-7 Ducks.

An explosive pass from Warren to Colston Loveland got the Wolverines in position for a field goal with 1:51 to go in the half, bringing the score to 21-10. On a two minute drill possession, Oregon got downfield quickly leading to a 23-yard scramble touchdown from Gabriel to make it 28-10 Ducks at halftime.

Third Quarter

Another great drive for Loveland helped Michigan convert a red zone possession in the passing game, cutting the Ducks’ lead to 28-17 and marking another slow start to the second half. The Ducks got the ball back and went on a methodical drive, mostly running the ball into plus territory where kicker Atticus Sappington knocked down a short field goal to give Oregon a 31-17 lead towards the end of the quarter.

Fourth Quarter

A largely uneventful fourth quarter ended in a two-yard touchdown run for running back Jordan James that iced the game at 38-17. Oregon took care of business on the road once again and moves to 9-0 on the year.
